Physiotherapy for Glasgow, just east of the city

To be clear from the start: Chapman Physiotherapy & Performance is not in Glasgow. The clinic is at 10 Cameron Street, Coatbridge, just beyond the city's eastern boundary. For plenty of people in the city centre, the Merchant City and further afield, though, it is an easy trip, with a direct train from Queen Street low level and a straight run out the M8.

Why travel? Because every appointment is a 45 minute, one-to-one session with the same physiotherapist, Kieran Chapman. He is HCPC registered, with experience in MSK physiotherapy, orthopaedics, neurological physiotherapy and cardiac rehab. Sessions are not squeezed between other patients, and the time is used for proper assessment and treatment.

Booking takes place online, where you can see live availability, and there are evening and Saturday appointments for anyone whose working day in town makes daytime visits difficult. No GP referral is required.

Glasgow

A city that runs, plays and sits at a desk

Glasgow Green, the city's oldest park, has stood on the north bank of the Clyde since the fifteenth century. Each autumn the Great Scottish Run brings thousands of people through the streets, with the half marathon starting in George Square and finishing on the Green. Training for a race like that, often on top of a full time job, is when a lot of runners first feel knee, hip or foot pain that does not settle on its own.

Every Saturday morning, parkrun events take place across the city, including Pollok Country Park on the Southside, Victoria Park in the West End, Springburn Park in the north and Tollcross Park in the east. The Green also has the Glasgow Green Football Centre and the National Hockey Centre built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and rowing clubs have used this stretch of the river since the nineteenth century.

Away from sport, city life brings its own strains. Office workers spend long days at screens in city centre buildings, while chefs, bar staff and retail teams in the Merchant City and along Buchanan Street spend whole shifts on their feet. Both can lead to persistent neck, shoulder and back problems, and people often put off treatment because fitting it around work feels impossible.

People come out to Coatbridge from the city centre and the Merchant City, from Calton and Townhead on the eastern side of the centre, and from the West End and Southside too. For anywhere north of the river near the railway, Queen Street low level and the Airdrie line are the simplest connection, while drivers from any part of Glasgow can pick up the M8 east and be at the clinic without crossing much more than the city boundary.

Questions

Coming from Glasgow

Is the clinic in Glasgow?

No. It is in Coatbridge, at 10 Cameron Street, a short distance east of the city boundary. A direct train from Queen Street low level to Coatbridge Sunnyside or a drive out the M8 gets most people there in well under an hour.

Is the trip from the city centre worth it compared with somewhere closer?

That is your call. What the clinic offers is one-to-one 45 minute appointments with the same HCPC registered physiotherapist each time, evening and Saturday availability, and an exercise plan you can access online between visits.

Can the West End be reached without changing trains?

Often, yes. North Clyde line trains towards Airdrie pass through Partick and Charing Cross and then Queen Street low level before heading east to Coatbridge Sunnyside. Check the timetable for the specific train, as not every service goes the same way.

How does a new patient book?

Choose a time online, pay a deposit that comes off the price of the session, and complete the short consultation form before your first appointment. Returning patients pay at each visit by cash or card.
