Physiotherapy injury assessment in Coatbridge

Your first physiotherapy appointment at Chapman Physiotherapy & Performance is an injury assessment. It is a one-to-one, 45 minute session with Kieran Chapman, an HCPC registered physiotherapist, at the clinic on Cameron Street in Coatbridge. The aim is simple: find out what is driving your pain or stiffness, explain it in plain language, and get treatment going before you leave.

It suits anyone with a new or nagging problem, whether that is a sore back after lifting, a knee that flares up on runs, a shoulder that will not settle, or stiffness after an operation. You do not need a GP referral to book private physiotherapy, and patients come from Coatbridge, the surrounding towns and across to east Glasgow.

How it works

How the assessment works

Kieran starts by listening. He will ask how the problem began, what eases it and what aggravates it, how it affects work, sleep and sport, and about your general health and any medication. Because new patients complete a short consultation form online before the visit, less of the appointment goes on paperwork and more goes on you.

The physical examination comes next. Depending on the area, that can mean watching how you move, testing strength and flexibility, checking the joints and, where relevant, looking at nerve function. Kieran then explains what he thinks is going on, what is likely to help and what the next few weeks could look like. If anything suggests your symptoms need a different route, such as a scan or a doctor's opinion, he will tell you.

Kieran's experience covers MSK and orthopaedic problems as well as neurological physiotherapy and cardiac rehab, so the assessment is not only for sports injuries.

Often used for

  • Back and neck pain, recent or long-standing
  • Sprains and strains from sport or everyday life
  • Shoulder, hip and knee pain
  • Recovery after orthopaedic surgery
  • Running niggles that keep coming back
  • Stiffness and reduced range of movement
  • Balance or mobility changes linked to a neurological condition
  • A clear opinion before starting a new training plan

Your session

What happens in a session

  1. 01

Book and fill in the form

Choose a time online, including evenings and Saturdays, and pay a deposit that comes off the price. Then complete the short consultation form before you arrive.

  2. 02

    Talk it through

Kieran asks about your history, your symptoms and what you want to get back to doing.

  3. 03

    Examination

He looks at how the area moves, how strong it is and what reproduces the pain, so the explanation rests on what he actually finds.

  4. 04

    A clear explanation

You leave knowing what is likely going on and what the plan is, in words that make sense.

  5. 05

    Treatment begins

Hands-on treatment, advice or your first exercises start in the same session, so the first visit is more than a chat.

Questions

About injury assessment

Do you need a GP referral?

No. You can book private physiotherapy directly online without seeing your GP first. If you have letters or scan results from the hospital or your doctor, it helps to bring them along.

What should you wear?

Something that lets Kieran see and move the sore area comfortably. Shorts are useful for hip, knee and ankle problems, and a vest top or loose t-shirt makes it easier to look at shoulders, necks and backs.

How many sessions will you need?

That depends on the problem, how long you have had it and what you want to get back to. Kieran will give you an honest idea at the end of the assessment and review progress at each follow-up.

When should you see a GP or get urgent help instead?

Physiotherapy is not the right first step for every symptom. Chest pain, sudden weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin or back passage, or pain after a serious fall or accident need urgent medical attention through 999, A&E or NHS 111. Unexplained weight loss, fever alongside back pain or severe pain at night should be checked by your GP.

How does payment work?

New patients pay a deposit online when booking, and it comes off the price of the session. Returning patients pay at the appointment by cash or card.
