Physiotherapy for Mount Vernon and Sandyhills
Mount Vernon is one of the greener pockets of the east end, with parks, a golf course and a bowling and tennis club all close at hand. When a round of golf leaves your back aching for days, or a run around Barrachnie Park ends with a twinge in the calf, Chapman Physiotherapy & Performance in Coatbridge is a straightforward drive away.
Kieran Chapman, the physiotherapist behind the clinic, is HCPC registered and has experience across MSK physiotherapy, orthopaedics, neurological physiotherapy and cardiac rehab. Each session is one-to-one and lasts 45 minutes. You book online, choose from live availability including evenings and Saturdays, and do not need to see a GP first.

Mount Vernon
Parks, fairways and greens around Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon has more open space than many people realise. Mount Vernon Park has football pitches, a multi-use games area and a woodland trail, Barrachnie Park adds rugby pitches, a running track and a skate park, and Early Braes Park opens out along the Tollcross Burn. Runners also have Tollcross parkrun a short way west, a free 5km timed event in Tollcross Park every Saturday morning, on a hilly course that asks plenty of calves and knees.
Golfers have Sandyhills Golf Club, an 18-hole parkland course on Sandyhills Road founded in 1905, while Mount Vernon Bowling and Tennis Club on Central Grove has been going since the 1890s. A golf swing puts a lot of rotation through the lower back and hips, bowling asks for repeated bending, and tennis loads the shoulder and elbow. Those aches are common, but they are worth having looked at if they keep coming back.

Treatment
What Kieran can help with
Injury assessment
Your first session starts with a conversation about the problem and how it affects you, from your golf swing to getting in and out of the car. Kieran then assesses movement, strength and the tissues involved, explains his findings in plain language and sets out a treatment plan.
More about injury assessment →
Rehabilitation
Rehab is a mix of manual treatment and a progressive exercise plan. The plan sits in your own online account, so you can do your exercises at home in Mount Vernon or before a round, and it is updated as you get stronger.

Deep tissue and sports massage
A sports massage can help runners and golfers whose muscles feel tight and heavy, and deep tissue massage works more firmly into long-standing tension. Kieran can combine either with other treatment in the same 45 minutes.

Acupuncture, cupping and taping
Acupuncture is offered as one option for muscle and joint pain, cupping can be used on areas of tightness, and taping may help support a joint as you return to sport. Each is chosen to suit your assessment rather than used routinely.

Questions
Coming from Mount Vernon
Can a physio help with back pain from golf?
Back pain linked to golf is a common reason people see a physiotherapist. Kieran will look at how your back, hips and shoulders move through the swing and build a plan around that, though the right treatment always depends on your assessment.
Which train should you take from Mount Vernon?
Trains from Mount Vernon station on the Whifflet line run to Whifflet on the south side of Coatbridge, about two kilometres from Cameron Street. Driving is usually simpler, as the route through Baillieston and along the A89 is direct.
Is the clinic suitable for parkrunners?
Yes. Whether you are building up to your first Tollcross parkrun or chasing a quicker time, an assessment can look at what is behind a niggle and how to keep training while it settles. Evening slots are handy for runners who would rather keep Saturday mornings free.
Does the deposit come off the price?
It does. New patients pay a deposit online when they book, which is deducted from the price. After that, returning patients pay at the appointment by cash or card.
