Physiotherapy for Stepps

Stepps is often thought of as the edge of Glasgow, but for physiotherapy it is just as easy to head east. Chapman Physiotherapy & Performance is at 10 Cameron Street in Coatbridge, reached by quiet roads through Muirhead and Gartcosh rather than city centre traffic.

The clinic is run by Kieran Chapman, an HCPC registered physiotherapist with a background in MSK physiotherapy, orthopaedics, neurological physiotherapy and cardiac rehab. In practice that means he can look at a hockey ankle on Monday, a stiff post-operative knee on Wednesday and someone getting active again after a heart problem on Saturday, giving each person the same full 45 minute, one-to-one session.

Booking is done online, where the diary shows real availability, including evenings and Saturdays. New patients pay a deposit at the time of booking, which is deducted from the cost, and fill in a brief consultation form so Kieran has the background before you arrive. A referral from your GP is not required.

Stepps

Hockey, tennis and the Seven Lochs on the Stepps doorstep

Stepps punches well above its size for sport. Stepps Hockey Club was formed in 1913, making it one of the oldest hockey clubs in Scotland, and the local tennis club dates back to 1905. Both are fast, stop and start games full of sudden changes of direction, so sprained ankles, hamstring strains, sore knees and shoulders worn down by repeated overhead shots are all part of the picture.

On the green side, Hogganfield Loch and the wider Seven Lochs Wetland Park are on the town's western edge, with a path around the loch that is popular with walkers and runners. The Seven Lochs Trail even runs all the way from Hogganfield to Drumpellier Country Park in Coatbridge, passing Cardowan Moss and Bishop Loch, so a walk or cycle can quite literally take you towards the clinic. Plenty of people in Stepps also work in offices, from Scottish Water's headquarters to Buchanan Business Park, and many keep fit at the health club in town, so desk posture and gym training loads come up as often as sports injuries.

Areas covered

  • Millerston
  • Cardowan
  • Garnkirk
  • Buchanan Business Park
  • Muirhead

The town includes Millerston, which runs from Hogganfield Loch along Cumbernauld Road and is split between Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, and the Cardowan area built on the old colliery ground east of the station. Garnkirk, the estate the town grew out of, stretches east towards Muirhead, and the Buchanan Business Park was added in the 1990s. Muirhead is the next stop east on the way towards Gartcosh and Coatbridge, so anyone in these areas can use the same simple route to the clinic.

Questions

Coming from Stepps

Is the clinic reachable from Stepps by train?

Yes, with one change. Take the Cumbernauld line from Stepps into Glasgow Queen Street, then an Airdrie line train from the low level platforms to Coatbridge Sunnyside. From there it is about a 15 minute walk to Cameron Street.

Is a physio worth seeing for an ankle that keeps going over at hockey?

Repeated ankle sprains are a common reason people seek physiotherapy. Kieran can assess the joint, look at balance and strength, and build a plan aimed at helping you return to playing with more confidence.

Does Kieran work with people after heart problems?

Cardiac rehab is one of his areas of experience. If you have a heart condition, mention it on your consultation form so he can plan the session safely, and follow any guidance from your own medical team.

Does Coatbridge make sense for someone who works in Glasgow?

Many people find an evening or Saturday appointment easiest. The drive from Stepps avoids the city centre, and you can check live availability online to find a time that works around your commute.
