A physio within easy reach of Tollcross
Swimmers training in the Olympic sized pool, parkrunners tackling the hill on every lap, footballers at Fullarton Park: Tollcross keeps a lot of people active. When something starts to hurt, Chapman Physiotherapy & Performance is a short journey east, at 10 Cameron Street in Coatbridge.
The clinic is run by Kieran Chapman, an HCPC registered physiotherapist whose experience covers MSK work, orthopaedics, neurological physiotherapy and cardiac rehab. That range matters. A sore shoulder from too many lengths needs a different approach to recovering after a joint replacement or a cardiac event, and Kieran assesses each person on their own terms.
Appointments are 45 minutes and always one-to-one. You book online, see live availability, and can choose evenings or Saturdays if weekdays are taken up.

Tollcross
Pool lengths, park laps and Saturday football
Tollcross International Swimming Centre opened in 1997 as the East End Leisure Centre and was renovated to host the swimming at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The City of Glasgow Swim Team trains in its Olympic sized pool. Swimmers clock up a huge number of overhead strokes, and shoulder pain, neck stiffness and the occasional knee complaint from breaststroke kicks are all common in the sport.
Tollcross Park, which opened in 1897 and covers around 37 hectares between here and Shettleston, hosts a free 5k parkrun every Saturday morning. Runners describe a mostly tarmac course run over two and a half laps with a hill each time round, which gives calves, knees and hips plenty to deal with. The park also has a rose garden, a children's farm and playing fields on its northern side, so it is busy all week with walkers and joggers.
Vale of Clyde play their football at Fullarton Park, with Tollcross Bowling Club right next door. Between the pitch, the green and the pool, Tollcross residents have no shortage of ways to stay active, and a correspondingly wide range of aches and strains that can follow.
Areas covered
- Braidfauld
- Lilybank
- Sandyhills
- Auchenshuggle
- Carmyle
Kieran treats people from Braidfauld, just north of Tollcross Road, from the Lilybank estate that many locals count as part of Tollcross, and from Sandyhills, Auchenshuggle and Carmyle further east and south. Carmyle Avenue leads straight to the M74, which makes the motorway route to Coatbridge especially handy from the southern end of the area, while Sandyhills sits right on the A89.
Treatment
What Kieran can help with
Injury assessment
A first visit starts with an injury assessment. Kieran takes a history, watches how you move, tests strength and range, and then tells you what he believes is going on and what the plan looks like. For a swimmer, that might mean looking closely at the shoulder through the whole stroke.

Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation sessions pair hands-on treatment with exercises that progress as you do. Your programme is stored in a personal online account, so you can open it at the pool, in the park or at home and follow it properly between visits.

Deep tissue and sports massage
Sports massage and deep tissue work are popular with people training several times a week. They can ease tight, overworked muscles around the shoulders, back and legs, and many people book a session during a heavy training block or ahead of an event.

Acupuncture, cupping and taping
Kieran also offers acupuncture, cupping and taping. Taping can give a little extra support to a joint while you return to the pool or the park, and acupuncture or cupping can be added where they suit your treatment.

Questions
Coming from Tollcross
Is Tollcross close to a train station for the clinic?
Tollcross has no station of its own. Shettleston station is the nearest one on the Airdrie line, with direct trains east to Coatbridge Sunnyside. From there it is a walk of roughly 15 to 20 minutes or a short taxi to Cameron Street.
Does Kieran see swimmers with shoulder problems?
Shoulder complaints are part of everyday MSK physiotherapy. Kieran will assess the shoulder, look at how your training is structured and set out a plan aimed at getting you back in the water comfortably, with exercises you can do alongside your sessions.
Are appointments available after a Saturday parkrun?
Saturday appointments are available, and you can check exactly which times are free on the online booking page before you go to the park.
What is best to wear to the first appointment?
Something comfortable that lets Kieran see and move the area being treated, such as shorts for a knee or a vest top for a shoulder. New patients also fill in a short online consultation form before arriving, which saves time on the day.
